Road & Surface Transportation

Transport Service in Mumbai

Moving cargo by road is rarely a one-size-fits-all job. A consignment of e-commerce stock doesn't travel the same way as industrial equipment or a household shipment, and the vehicle and route change accordingly. Shiv Guru Cargo coordinates road transportation from Mumbai on both FTL and PTL basis, arranging the vehicle that suits your cargo rather than fitting your cargo to whatever happens to be available.

Bookings generally start from around 10 kg.

Your Cargo, Our Transportation Support

Every transportation job starts with a few practical questions: where it is being picked up, where it is going, what kind of cargo it is, roughly how much it weighs, and how many packages are involved. Dimensions matter too, particularly for anything bulky or irregular in shape. Once we have this picture, we can work out whether the shipment needs a dedicated vehicle or can move as part of a shared load, and put together a transportation plan that fits the requirement instead of a standard template.

This is also why we don't quote a flat rate upfront. Road transportation pricing depends on the route, the cargo, the weight and packaging, and what kind of pickup and delivery is needed at either end.

A Note on Shipment Size

Transportation bookings generally start from approximately 10 kg, and many common shipments fall somewhere in the 10–100 kg range. Larger consignments and full-truckload requirements can also be considered, depending on vehicle capacity, cargo dimensions, route and handling requirements.

Transportation Services

Complete Surface Transportation Solutions

FTL (Full Truck Load)

FTL gives your shipment a dedicated vehicle arrangement. It is usually considered when the volume of cargo, its nature or the customer's requirement makes a vehicle of its own the more sensible choice.

PTL (Part Truck Load)

Not every shipment needs an entire vehicle to itself. When the quantity doesn't call for a dedicated truck and a suitable shared arrangement is available, your cargo can move alongside other consignments on the same route. Whether FTL or PTL works out better for a given shipment depends on the volume, route and requirement involved. It isn't a fixed rule either way.

Local Transportation

For movement within Mumbai and surrounding areas, vehicles are arranged based on the volume and nature of the goods being moved.

Intercity Transportation

For cargo travelling between cities, we coordinate the vehicle and route based on the distance, the goods being carried, and any handling requirements along the way.

Commercial Goods

Retail stock, business supplies and general trade cargo are transported with loading and handling suited to the goods.

Industrial Goods

Machinery components, raw materials and industrial equipment may need a particular vehicle type or loading care, and this is arranged according to the cargo.

E-Commerce Transportation

E-commerce shipments are coordinated around what the consignment actually needs, from the quantity and packaging to the handling required at pickup and delivery.

Household Goods

Household items can be transported as a smaller consignment or a larger load, with the vehicle arranged to suit what is being moved. If you also need packing and moving support, see our Packers & Movers service.

Choosing a Mode

Road, Train, Air or Sea: Which One Suits Your Cargo?

This page is about road transportation, which is how most local and Pan India cargo moves out of Mumbai. But road isn’t always the best answer. Some shipments are better off on a train, a flight or a ship, and we would rather tell you that than push every consignment onto a truck.

Road

A flexible choice for most consignments. Pan India movement on an FTL or PTL basis, door-to-door where the route and cargo allow it. Bookings generally start from around 10 kg. Larger consignments can also be considered depending on vehicle capacity, cargo dimensions, route and handling requirements.

Railway parcel cargo service in Mumbai

Train

Worth considering for long-distance domestic cargo from around 10 kg, when the route has parcel space on trains. It depends on the route, the train and the capacity at the time. For RR, SLR and VP options, see Railway Parcel Booking.

Ground staff handling air cargo pallets beside an aircraft

Air

For lighter or time-sensitive shipments. Domestic air cargo from Mumbai generally starts from around 2 kg and international from around 0.5 kg, subject to acceptance and the destination’s requirements. Dangerous goods are not accepted.

Container ship and port operations for sea cargo

Sea

For sizeable, heavy or bulky shipments, domestic or international, where the timeline allows. Sea cargo generally starts from around 200 kg and can be arranged as full container (FCL) or shared container (LCL).

A Few Questions That Usually Settle It

  1. How soon does it need to arrive? If the date is tight, it is worth asking about air or a dedicated vehicle. If there is some flexibility, other options can open up.
  2. How heavy and how bulky is it? A few cartons, a pallet and a full vehicle load are three different conversations.
  3. Where is it going? Some routes suit road well, while others are better served by train, air or sea. Availability is confirmed route by route.
  4. What is in it? Fragile, very heavy or oversized goods affect the vehicle and the handling, and some items cannot go by certain modes at all.
  5. What matters most to you? Speed, cost and fewer handovers don’t always point to the same answer, so tell us which one you care about.

If you are not sure, share the basics through our quote page and our team will tell you which option makes sense for the shipment, even when that is not a road consignment.

Everyday Situations

Where Road Transportation Fits

These are not rules, just the kinds of situations in which people usually come to us, and how such a shipment tends to be approached.

A Shop Sending Stock to a Few Cities

A retailer with a modest quantity for each destination often does not need a truck to itself. A PTL arrangement lets the cargo travel as part of a shared load, where a suitable one is available on that route.

A Manufacturer Moving Machine Parts

Heavy or awkward items such as machinery components may need a particular vehicle type and careful loading. This is where FTL or an open truck is often discussed, depending on the size and weight.

An Online Seller Sending a Batch of Cartons

Sellers moving stock in bulk to a warehouse or a hub care about package count, packaging and handling at both ends. Cargo that has to be held before dispatch can be discussed under warehousing.

A Family Shifting Household Goods

Household items can move as a small consignment or a larger load. If you also want help with packing and loading, mention it when you ask for a quote and we will tell you what can be arranged.

A Business Delivering to a Customer’s Site

When the delivery address is a shop, a site or an industrial unit, details such as the floor, the gate and the timing matter. Share them early so the arrangement fits the address.

A Trader Sending Goods to the Same Place Often

If you send to the same destination repeatedly, tell us. It helps to know the usual quantity and route so that future bookings can be planned around them.

How It Works

Transportation Process

A straightforward process to move your cargo from pickup to delivery, with our team coordinating each step.

01

Share Cargo Details

Let us know the pickup location, destination, cargo type, approximate weight, quantity and dimensions where relevant.

02

Get a Suitable Quote

Based on these details, we work out a suitable vehicle and route, and share a quote that reflects the actual shipment.

03

Confirm Booking & Pickup

Once you're satisfied with the arrangement, we confirm the booking and plan the pickup accordingly.

04

Cargo Movement

The cargo moves as per the confirmed arrangement, whether that's a dedicated vehicle for FTL or a shared arrangement for PTL.

05

Delivery & Updates

Delivery is coordinated as planned, with status updates available through website tracking, WhatsApp or direct team support, depending on how the shipment has been arranged.

Charges

What Affects Transportation Charges

We don’t publish a price list for road transportation, because there isn’t one number that fits every shipment. Two consignments of the same weight can cost quite different amounts if one is a long intercity movement on a part load and the other is a short local run in a dedicated vehicle. These are the main things a quote is built on:

  • Route and distance: where the cargo is picked up, where it is going, and the kind of route in between.
  • Weight and volume: what the cargo weighs and how much space it takes. Light but bulky cargo can use as much vehicle space as something heavy and compact.
  • FTL or PTL: a dedicated vehicle or a shared load, which depends on the quantity and on what is available on the route.
  • Vehicle type: a light commercial vehicle, a medium or heavy truck, a container truck or an open truck, depending on the cargo.
  • Nature of the goods: fragile, very heavy, awkward or needing extra handling.
  • Pickup and delivery conditions: access at both ends, the floor, waiting time and help with loading or unloading.
  • Packing and paperwork: whether packing is needed and what documents the shipment requires.
  • Timing: a fixed or urgent date can limit the options compared with a flexible one.

The quote is based on the details you share. If something changes later, such as a different pickup point, extra boxes or a new date, tell us early, because it can change the vehicle or the arrangement.

Before Pickup

Packing, Loading, Documents and Delivery: What to Get Ready

A bit of preparation makes pickup smoother and helps avoid delays and disagreements later.

Packing

Pack goods so they can handle loading, unloading and the road. Use strong cartons, fill empty space, seal the edges and keep heavier items at the bottom. If you would like help with packing, mention it when you ask for a quote. Whether it is available, and whether it is chargeable, depends on the shipment and will be confirmed in the quote.

Labelling and Count

Mark each package with the destination and a contact number, and note the total number of packages. A simple count at pickup and again at delivery settles most doubts about what was sent.

Access and Loading

Tell us about the pickup point: the floor, whether there is a lift, gate timings, society or industrial-estate rules, and how close a vehicle can get. In some parts of Mumbai larger vehicles can face entry restrictions, so the vehicle has to suit the lane as well as the load.

Documents

What is needed depends on the goods, their value and the route. Commonly it means a tax invoice or bill for the goods and, where GST rules require it, an e-way bill. International road movement can involve further documents. If you are unsure, ask our team and confirm with your accountant before dispatch.

At Delivery

Keep someone available at the delivery address, check the package count and the condition of the goods, and report any problem straight away, with photos if you can.

Keeping Track

Updates are available through website tracking, WhatsApp or our team, depending on how the shipment has been arranged. You can also call or WhatsApp us on +91 98920 00469.

Getting a Quote

What to Include When You Ask for a Quote

The more precise your first message, the fewer follow-up questions and the sooner we can suggest an arrangement. If it helps, copy this and fill it in:

Pickup location: area and PIN code

Delivery location: city and PIN code

Cargo: what it is, and whether it is fragile or oversized

Weight: approximate, per package and in total

Packages: number of cartons, pallets or loose items

Size: length, width and height of the largest package

Pickup date: and whether it is flexible

Anything else: floor or lift at pickup, a delivery deadline, whether you need packing help

Send it through the quote page, or call or WhatsApp us on +91 98920 00469. Photos of bulky or unusual items help. Once we have the details, we look at the route and the vehicle options and share a quote for the shipment. When you are happy with it, we confirm the booking and plan the pickup.
